Votes at 16

With the date on lowering the voting age to 16 being debated in the house of commons with the second reading of the bill being debated last week, it is time to revisit the argument and I am disgusted and outraged at the Tories delaying the amount of time that was available for this debate by filibustering the mental health bill that was read and debated before it.

Vote at 16 is a personal issue for me and one that I have happily campaigned and supported for many years. 16 Year Olds deserve to have a say in our country, mainly because they have to live the longest with the choices that are enforced on them by citizens who are deemed 'old enough' to have the right to vote in our country.

At 16 in the United Kingdom you are legal to:

Join the British Army
Consent to intercourse
Work and pay taxes
Get married
Join a trade union
Pilot a glider
Apply for a driver's licence

But you cannot vote, how does that make sense?

I feel that it is time to change this in Britain and if you do too, please support this motion and any campaigning that is done in your local area or nationally. Young people need a voice in this country and in the last election, more 18-24s turned up to vote and it hugely effected the outcome of the election, and that is what I believe the Tories are really afraid of. If they lower the voting age, that will lessen their chances of winning a landslide that was predicted in this year's election but didn't happen.
